The end is in sight. Assessments are complete. Reports are in the final stages. Awards are being typed up. 2023 Leaders have been elected. Class lists are being finalized. Positions are being filled. We are now entering the final weeks of 2022. What a year it has been!
On Monday we announced to the school community our wonderful new student leadership teams.
School Leaders: Isobel Cram and Elliot Sargent
Mercy Leaders: Ryan Peacey, Sarah Harris, Lucy Dunk and Jett Johnson
De La Salle Leaders: Lily Mcleod, Oliver Hall, Eamon Sutherland and Lucas Walker
O’Shaughnessy Leaders: Amarli Kelleher, Charlotte Campbell, Ella Gammon and Nate Vitnell
We congratulate these students on their election to a position of service and leadership. We pray that 2023 will be a year that provides a plethora of opportunities for these students to learn and to grow as leaders.
Next Wednesday we will be conducting our Annual Awards presentations. Once again we have erred on the side of caution and have opted for two smaller ceremonies to keep the risk of transmission of the latest COVID strain to a minimum. At 10am in the church we will conduct the INFANTS and PRIMARY Award presentation. At 12noon we will host the Secondary Awards for Years 7 to 10. Families and guests are most welcome but we would ask that you do not attend if you have COVID symptoms and have tested positive.
Reports will be uploaded to the COMPASS portal in the final week of school. Please ensure that you are able to log on to the COMPASS portal to access the Semester 2 report. Please contact the school if you are unable to log on.
The Year 10s have had a very exciting and valuable time in the work force over the past two weeks as they complete their work experience program. We are grateful to the many employers who generously accept our students in their workplace. Without their support initiatives like this could not proceed. The Year 10 students return next week for their final week at Sacred Heart. They will have lots top get through as they prepare for the Graduation on Friday 9th December. The Beyond Sacred Heart interviews will be conducted in an abbreviated version on Tuesday 6th December, and this will be the culmination of a lot of hard work by the students and especially Mr Mahon and Ms Withers.
Our Stage 3 students return today from their excursion to Ballarat. It has been a relatively incident free trip and we are thankful that COVID did not blight their trip. Thank you to Mrs Maxwell, Mrs Winsor and Mr Barnard for their generous supervision over the past days. Hopefully we will have a report for next weeks newsletter. There were some wonderful photos posted on facebook that highlighted the great time they were all having.
The Infants Swimming Program has been very successful thus far and will continue into next week. Thank you to the staff for their care and supervision and to Mrs Hunt for all her organization.
It is with great delight that I announce the appointment of Mr Ryan Forsyth to our school as the new Assistant principal for 2023. Mr Forsyth is currently the Acting Principal at Adelong and he is very excited about journey our beautiful school. We look forward to all that Mr Forsyth will bring to our school and we know he will be warmly welcomed and very happy in our community.
A reminder that the last day for students will be Friday 16 December. Staff have completed twilight Professional learning so will not return for the following week. The opportunity to meet with teachers after reports will be restricted to the two last days of term. Instructions on how to book an appointment will be made available closer to the time.
A final reminder to our Year 8 students about payment and permissions for the excursion in Week 10. Please ensure that all documentation and monies have been given to the Front Office. This will be a wonderful way to finish off the school year and we thank Mr Mahon for his organization and the busy band of parents who have been fundraising to offset the costs.
Another week comes to a close and we are grateful for all the opportunities and blessings that we have been given.
God Bless and in all things be kind to yourself and each other. In this crazy time when we seem to spend so much money and time on Christmas remember that kindness doesn’t cost a thing, yet it is the richest gift you can give.

From the Art Class
Sacred Heart Central School is thrilled to announce that Logan Martinuzzo was selected as a finalist in the National Portrait Gallery’s 2023 Little Darlings Youth Portrait Prize.
The inaugural Little Darlings Youth Portrait Prize is a competition for primary and secondary students, with four separate categories across Kindergarten to Year 12.
For the 2023 prize, students were asked to respond to the theme ‘Me and my place’ by painting, drawing, photographing, printing or combining all of these to make their portrait. Logan created an impressive self-portrait using ink, watercolour and collaged pieces of painted paper.
Logan’s work has also been selected to be published in the National Portrait Gallery’s 2024 calendar which will be available at the gallery
Logan’s work will be on display at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra during the autumn of 2023.

Olympics Unleashed visit
Rohan Chapman-Davies visited our secondary students on Friday as part of the Olympics Unleashed program.
Olympics Unleashed connects athletes with schools across the country to inspire students to find and follow their passion and provide lessons in goal setting, overcoming challenges and developing resilience.
Rohan is a Freestyle Skier in the Mens Moguls and has competed on the world stage for over 14 years. He has produced impressive results in many competitions including competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Read about Rohan in his bio at https://www.olympics.com.au/olympians/rohan-chapman-davies/
During the visit, Rohan talked about his Olympic journey and overcoming challenges to compete in his chosen sport at the highest level to help inspire the students to be the best they can be – whether that’s in school, at home, on the sporting field or with friends. The students asked great questions about Rohan’s training, tricks and travel experiences.
Rohan then enjoyed playing sport with some of the Year 8 students.
Student takeaways:
“Before a run he would clear his mind of everything else and just focus on three things he can control in his run” John McGuinness Year 8
“Mogul skiing is more complicated than he first thought” Archie Blackman Year 8
“He had to focus on his recovery so that he could go back at close to 100% without little injuries” Patrick Golden Year 8
“He was encouraging people to reach their goals and took the time to mentally reset [when he was recovering from his injury]” Jay Lockett Year 8
