Lord, as I offer you all that is ordinary and everyday in my life,
I ask you to give me the power of your Spirit that I may do the
ordinary things of life in an extraordinary way.
Amen.
Week 9
School Play
I would like to wish Mrs Nicky Trinder, all the staff and students who are currently involved in preparing for the school play – “Robin The Hood”, all the very best as they begin performances next week! May all your hard work be justly rewarded! From the sneak peaks I have seen it promises to be a highly entertaining and enjoyable performance to attend.
Traditions Day Mass
Please join us for Mass at 11.45am tomorrow (Friday 21 September) as we celebrate our Traditions Day and the wonderful work of the Sisters of Mercy and De la Salle brothers. Mass will be followed by a sausage sizzle and we would love to have as many families as possible to come along and enjoy lunch with us.
Staffing 2019
If you anticipate a change to your child’s enrolment and have not yet let the school know your intentions, please let us know before the end of this term. Staffing conversations with our head office are currently taking place and it is difficult to make changes later in the year if our enrolment figures are not accurate.
If you are aware of any families considering enrolment, particularly in Kindergarten or secondary, please encourage them to submit their enrolment forms asap as this benefits the whole school community.
Primary Class groups 2019
As always, class groups are determined by a rigorous process involving a great many considerations. Teachers and the Primary Coordinator spend a lot of time determining class groupings and the earlier we have information the better. In exceptional circumstances we will consider parent requests (though these are not guaranteed) but are certainly taken into account.
Any special considerations need to be given to the Principal and they will be treated confidentially. All notifications will be handed to the incoming Principal for his/her information. If you have a special request, please note that previous requests will NOT be included. We often find that a year changes people’s opinions and circumstances and that previous challenges no longer exist. If you wish a special consideration to be taken into account for class groups/teachers for 2019, please either make a time with me to discuss by making an appointment through the front office or by emailing me by Friday 19 October 2018. No requests after this date will be considered unless they are due to a change in circumstances after this date.
Please note: It is impossible to guarantee a certain teacher given that teachers may be moved to different year levels or staffing may change in 2019. Whilst it is lovely feedback for teachers to know that your child has enjoyed their year with them, unfortunately this type of request cannot be considered.
New sign in process and system
We now have an electronic system for registering visitor sign in, student sign out, late slips, etc. We are no longer using the manual book which has been in use for many years. If you are visiting the school, or need to sign out your child (no child can be signed out without a parent present), please go to the front office and they will assist you. Hopefully this will make these processes faster and more efficient.
Community Breakfast and Uniform Free
We will be having a community breakfast on Wednesday 26 September from 8am. The menu will be sausage sandwiches and juice. All from our community are most welcome to join us and hopefully enjoy a beautiful spring morning.
Uniform Free – students may wear uniform free on Wednesday 26 September for a gold coin donation. Please remember that usual modesty, hair, makeup, jewellery and enclosed shoe rules still apply. The Student Leaders have chosen to support the Big Red Kidney Walk. Please give generously to help save and improve the lives of people living with kidney disease.
Annual Improvement Survey
Thank you to all the parents who completed the Annual Improvement Survey. For such surveys our return rate is considered excellent by the survey company. We greatly appreciate the many positive commendations which have been provided and the time it takes to ensure that what we are doing well is identified and celebrated.
Often with such surveys it is only parents who have complaints who respond, so it is pleasing that our results are overwhelmingly positive and recognise the enormous effort that our staff put in to make Sacred Heart an excellent learning environment, one which has shown significant academic growth and improvement over the past years.
Thank you to the parents who took the time to make constructive and detailed suggestions for how we can continue to improve. It is quite difficult at times to understand a small portion of the feedback as it can be quite brief and without sufficient explanation. Without an explanation or knowing who it is from, it is difficult to action, but we will do our best to use the information provided to continue to improve.
The School Leadership Team will take some time over the coming weeks to review and analyse the data that has been provided in a more detailed manner.
REMINDER
The first day back Term 4 is Monday 15 October for ALL students and staff. There is no professional learning day at the start of Term 4.
With blessings,
Mrs Janet Cartwright

Catholic Schools Week September 16-21
“Discovering New Horizon”
The theme for Catholic Education Week this year has been aligned with the official Year of Youth theme for 2018 and is derived from a speech given by Pope Francis at World Youth Day 2016 where he called young people and the Church to ‘open new horizons for spreading joy’
My friends, Jesus is the Lord of risk, he is the Lord of the eternal “more”. Jesus is not the Lord of comfort, security and ease. Following Jesus demands a good dose of courage, a readiness to trade in the sofa for a pair of walking shoes and to set out on new and uncharted paths. To blaze trails that open up new horizons capable of spreading joy, born of God’s love and wells up in your hearts with every act of mercy.
Western Region Catholic Schools’ Mass
On Tuesday students from across our Western Region gathered at Sacred Heart to celebrate mass together and play and socialise on our playground. It was a wonderful time seeing our students welcome and include others. The Mass was a great celebration of all that Catholic Schools in our diocese represent.
Traditions Day Mass
Tomorrow at 11:45 our school celebrates Traditions Day. We celebrate Mass and gather together for a sausage sizzle to remember the contribution that the Sisters of Mercy and the de La Sale Brothers have made to our school.
