Already Week 2! Time is passing so quickly that we need to make sure that each and every day counts. I am currently reading a book by Chris Lowney on Pope Francis and it is a really good read where you learn lessons from the First Jesuit Pope. Chris Lowney looks into the formation of our current Pope and what makes him such a different leader. What Lowney recognises as being important to the success of any organisation is something we also hold as a truth – that the most important assets [of our school] walk out the door every night, [Our staff] are committed, conscientious and dedicated, they honestly care about our students and exhibit a hundred other attitudes that make all the difference between success and failure”. Never was this more obvious than in the past week at the Parent/teacher/Student interviews. There were some excellent discussions and dialogue about where students are, where they are going and what they need to do next. As we journey together we want each day of learning to be valuable and to make a difference in the lives of each and every student. I am in awe of how devoted our staff are to the students in their care. If you missed the opportunity to meet with the teachers please contact the front Office and we will arrange for you to have a chance to discuss the progress and development of your child.
UNIFORM FREE DAY
Tomorrow we will have our first Uniform free day where students are encouraged to wear a beanie to promote awareness and much needed funds for research into brain cancers. We will also split the funds with the Kidney Kar Rally, as Mr Alderman will be participating in the annual Kidney Kar Rally to raise funds to help support kids and young people affected by kidney disease – Port Macquarie to Armidale via Capricorn Coast from 9 -17 August.
YEAR 7 2020 INFORMATION EVENING 5.30PM 6 August
Next Tuesday 6 August at 5.30pm in Rooms 7/8 we hope to welcome the newest cohort for 2020 into our secondary school. Ms Marsay will lead an informative evening highlighting all the wonderful things we have on offer for Years 7 – 10. If you are intending to transition into Year 7 we would love to see you and if you know of anyone who is interested in joining us in 2020 then please give them the details or tell them to contact the school. The P & F will supply a light BBQ supper at the end of the presentation.
REMINDER: Satisfaction Survey
The annual satisfaction survey was launched via email very early on the morning of 29 July. It is important that we as a school community reflect on what we do well and where we can improve. We invite parents to complete the survey so that we can inform further school improvement. The survey closes on 9 August 2019. If you do not receive an email with a link to the survey, you can access and complete the survey at the following link. https://www.research.net/r/sacredheartparent2019 If you have any pressing issues we would much rather you discussed them with us so that we can bring some resolution to your concerns.
Work of the Week
This week’s award goes to 3W for their excellent work using diamond 9s in Religious Education to explain the significance, and their understanding, of prayer.
NAIDOC Celebrations
On Friday 27 July some of our Year 9 and 10 students travelled to Canberra to be part of the Archdiocesan celebrations at St Christopher’s Cathedral. We were able to share in the acknowledgement of the outstanding efforts by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and staff across the Archdiocese. Out of 12 special awards, Sacred Heart was recognised with 2 significant award presentations. Ellah O’Callaghan, Year 10, was recognised for her excellent academic scholarship and our Mawang Cultural group, made up of all our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, received an award for their collective sense of cultural identity. We applaud their commitment to their heritage and their personal journey.
REMINDER: Personalised Plans
In the last week of term 2 we mailed home the Personalised Plans (PPs) to support the differentiated and individualised learning of students who require tailored programs. These contain a receipt that needs to be returned to school as a legal requirement to acknowledge that you have received and read the document. Please return this receipt as soon as possible for filing. If you have any questions regarding the PPs please contact the Front Office to speak to the classroom teacher or Mrs Cohen.
INFANTS SWIMMING
We can now confirm that the Infants Swimming Program will be held in weeks 9 and 10 of Term 3 from 11am - 1pm. This will be a 9 day program that will support our youngest students in the development of their skills and confidence in the water. This year we hope to keep the cost to $65 but final details will be outlined in a permission letter to be sent home in the coming weeks.
P & F MEETING and UNIFORM MEETING
As per last week’s newsletter where I highlighted the position that we have on uniform I would like to remind everyone that there will be a uniform meeting held in conjunction with the P & F meeting on Monday 5 August to consider the current uniform requirements and suggest any adjustments that may be warranted. These suggestions are then tabled at the School Board later in the month. This discussion will be held at the completion of the monthly P & F meeting and we hope that lots of people will attend to support us in all the wonderful things that the P & F committee do and provide for our school. I have attached photos of just some of the financial investments that the P & F have made in our school in the last semester. At the last two meetings the P & F committee gave approval for nearly $15, 000 in resources for our students. The provision of iPads for Stage 2, thousands of dollars of books for Infants and Primary classrooms and beautiful new furniture for our Infants Breakout space.
