After such a cold, cold weekend we are hopeful that Spring is just around the corner. Already sprigs of wattle are bursting forth and we wait impatiently for the longer warmer days. The Wattle Time Fair is a traditional way to welcome in the new season and we are hopeful that lots of students and staff will join with us on 31August to be part of the street parade. There are still plenty of coughs and sniffles around so we encourage students to stay home to recover if they are feeling poorly. We do not want to spend the last days of winter battling the dreaded lurgies.
NED came, he saw and he delivered!
Last Week Ned’s Mindset Mission visited the primary students. It was a fabulous presentation all about the benefits and impact of a positive mindset. Through a magical show of tricks and wizardry he kept our students enthralled with his message of ‘Never Give Up’,’ Encourage others’, ‘DO your Best’. We never grow tired of hearing these wonderful messages and the yo yo flurry that now envelopes our school is testament to the message being shared and lived.
KIDNEY KAR RALLY
Mr Alderman is currently travelling through the vast expanses of outback Queensland and is in the Shire of Banana at a small town called Moura. He is having an excellent time and I don’t think he really misses us very much but he does keep me posted on his adventures. He is extremely proud and grateful for the support he received from our school community and we wish him safe travel and we hope to see him back with a fistful of stories in Week 5.
YEAR 9 & 10 2020 ELECTIVE INFORMATION EVENING 6PM TUESDAY 20 August
Next Tuesday night at 6pm in Rooms 7 7 8 there will be an Information Evening for all 2020 Year 9 and 10 students. Students and Parents will be presented with the different options for the elective subject choices for their Stage 5 studies. Elective subject teachers will be there to answer questions and to promote their subject. Students will receive a booklet detailing all of the expectations and outlines for the different subjects including projected units and costs. We encourage all Year 9 and 10 students for 2020 to attend so that they can make informed choices about their studies.
Work of the Week
This week’s award was hotly contested between several wonderful pieces of work from across the school but I have chosen the work of two lovely young ladies who wrote a beautiful prayer/poem in response to the artwork that they created in Religious Education.
2019 SCIENCE FAIR
Don’t miss one of the highlights of the Primary calendar. The Science Fair will be held this Friday 16 August. Families and friends are invited to visit the budding scientists’ stalls outside St Columbas Hall showcasing the latest in scientific marvels.

Last Wednesday we welcomed Ned's Mindset Mission to our school. Ned entertained us with his yo-yo and magic tricks but most importantly taught us to:
Never give up -understand the power of Yet
Encourage others - spark courage in other people
Do your best - always be learning and growing
This supports the work we have been doing across the school on growth mindset and challenging learning. Ned reminded us that we grow our brain by learning. The students were respectful and engaged in Ned's show. Yo-yo's are available to purchase at lunchtimes until Wednesday 14 August at a cost of $8, $15 or $20.
All students are invited to design an A4 size poster about NED's message and enter into a competition to win a yo-yo pack! Posters due to Mrs Murphy by Friday 16th August.
Thanks
Mrs Murphy
